چکیده

(i) When was the Galaxy assembled? Is this an ongoing process? What was the merging history of the Milky Way? (ii) When did star formation occur in what is now ‘The Milky Way Galaxy’? Where did the star formation occur then? What was the stellar Initial Mass Function? (iii) How much dissipation of energy was there before and during the formation of the different stellar components of the Galaxy? (iv) What are the relationships among the different stellar components of the Galaxy? (v) Was angular momentum conserved during formation of the disk(s) of the Galaxy? (vi) What is the shape of the dark halo? (vii) Is there dissipative (disk) dark matter?

Chemical similarities between Galactic bulge and local thick disk red giant stars

Context. The evolution of the Milky Way bulge and its relationship with the other Galactic populations is still poorly understood. The bulge has been suggested to be either a merger-driven classical bulge or the product of a dynamical instability of the inner disk. Aims. To probe the star formation history, the initial mass function and stellar nucleosynthesis of the bulge, we performed an elem...

3-d Simulations of the Chemical and Dynamical Evolution of the Galactic Bulge

A three-dimensional hydrodynamical N-body model for the formation of the Galaxy is presented with special attention to the formation of the bulge component. Since all previous numerical models for the Galaxy formation do not have a proper treatment of the chemical evolution and/or sufficient spatial resolutions, we have constructed a detailed model of the chemical and dynamical evolution of the...

Models of the long-term evolution of the Galactic disk with viscous flows and gas infall

Radial gas flows induced by viscosity may significantly redistribute the gas component in galactic disks. On the condition that the timescale of the viscous transport is comparable to the star formation timescale, this process naturally explains the observed exponential stellar density profiles in disks independent of the density profiles of the initial disks. We discuss models for the chemical...

Early Evolution of Disk Galaxies : Formation of Bulges in Clumpy Young Galactic Disks

A new idea is proposed for the origin of bulges in spiral galaxies. Numerical simulations for the protogalactic collapse suggest strongly that galactic bulges have been assembled from massive clumps formed in the galactic disks in their early evolutionary phase. These clumps result from the gravitational instability of the gas-rich disks of young galaxies. Those massive clumps, individual masse...

Chemical Evolution of Bulges

We present the multiphase model applied to a set of bulges. This model was first applied to the Solar Neighborhood, and then to the Galactic Disk, by computing the radial dependence of input parameters, which govern the gas accumulation in the disk, and the cloud and star formation processes. These processes result enhanced in the central region due to the volume effect. The evolution of the Ga...

Oxygen abundances in the Galactic bulge: evidence for fast chemical enrichment

We spectroscopically characterize the Galactic Bulge to infer its star formation timescale, compared to the other Galactic components, through the chemical signature on its individual stars. We derived iron and oxygen abundances for 50 K giants in four fields towards the Galactic bulge. High resolution (R=45,000) spectra for the target stars were collected with FLAMES-UVES at the VLT. Oxygen, a...
